Modeling the Performance Metrics of Packet Scheduling Algorithms in Wireless Sensor Networks

Abstract

Wireless Sensor Networks has been applicable and useful in different practical applications. There are different Priority packet scheduling algorithms for Wireless Sensor Networks. These scheduling algorithms are important for consumption energy reduction, throughput, Delay, Packet loss and other performance Metrics. In this paper three algorithms are modeled, simulated and implemented. First-In-First-Out and Earliest Deadline First as two scheduling algorithms in Wireless Sensor Networks are implemented and modeled in this paper and their performance metrics (Throughput, Lost Packets and Delay) are compared with the performance metrics of LEACH Protocol. Simulation runs are repeated 100 times and their averages are collected for each metric measure in each algorithm. Simulation results show a superiority of EDF over the other two algorithms in terms of Delay and Throughput Metrics. LEACH Protocol present a better significant difference in Packet Loss Metric with the other two algorithms.
