Abstract

5G communication technology promises fast data transmission and reception at high speeds, with planar MIMO antennas being key to its implementation. This study comes with a new antenna design that includes a double U-shaped DGS, an inset-feed, and symmetric parasitic elements to improve performance. But, the antennas we have now still have issues. For example, they don’t work well at 3.5 GHz, their return loss is weak, and they can’t match impedance well because of how they’re built. To fix these problems, a new antenna design included a double U-shaped defective ground structure (DGS), an inset feed, and symmetrical parasitic elements. The optimal placement and dimensions of these components were optimized using the particle swarm optimization algorithm. This modification resulted in significant improvements: a return loss of −45.60 dB, a VSWR of 1.01, and perfect resonance at 3.5 GHz. In addition, the antenna achieved a 3.41 dBi gain, a 362 MHz bandwidth, a diversity gain of 9.99, and an envelope correlation coefficient of 3.34 × 10−⁵, demonstrating its potential for efficient 5G device applications.
